Another Green Club meeting was held on December 16th. We are awaiting a response from Mayor Avedesian regarding city recycling for our cans and bottles.

The Green Club has many new ideas! One of the ideas is a Go Green Day, which would more than likely be during the school day. We would have a school assembly, and possibly have a speaker from the landfill to come and speak to the students about “going green”. Jacob D. was assigned to order activity packets for the Green Assembly. Another idea is “treasures from trash:. It would be a fun activity. You would take clean items out of the trash and make a art piece. Sam will talk to Mrs. Henchy, the art teacher, about some ideas of what to build. A fundraising idea from the Green Club was to make a Christmas gift tags out of old Christmas cards that anyone would donate. Since Christmas is near, this fundraiser may be used for next year, but could begin now. Please send in your old Christmas cards.

Another issue discussed at the meeting was the lunch tray issue. Our hot lunch at Saint Rose School is supplied by Dave’s Bar & Grill. They use Styrofoam lunch trays. The Green Club considers this a major issue because these Styrofoam lunch trays are thrown away each day. The Green Club members thought about having a fundraiser to buy new lunch trays that could be re-used but, unfortunately, they need to be washed in a commercial dishwasher each day. Other members suggested that we buy a dishwasher. That would be extremely expensive. Everyone decided to invite Mrs. Fuller and Father Wilson to the next meeting to discuss this issue.

At the end of the meeting, everyone had a little snack and played Go Green charades, which was a fun way to end the meeting! Have a great Christmas vacation and remember to stay green!

Sincerely, Your Secretary,
Kiah M.
